One of the oddities of gaming is that while some of the largest franchises in the world may only command relatively small events, in the world of esports and cult favourite releases you can almost always find a massive fan event somewhere devoted to them. And that’s just the case with RuneFest 2025 for the hit MMORPG RuneScape!
But we’re not just here to congratulate the fans and developers of RuneScape, are we? You want to know what amazing new features are bring promises. So, to start with we can announce that Old School RuneScape will see a whopping raft of three new major features, and in the first RuneFest since 2019 it’s little surprise how jam-packed the celebration was.
That includes the introduction of its first new skill with Sailing and a variety of nautical vessels with which to take advantage of it, the addition of new endgame content for experienced players such as the tough-as-nails boss Yama, and the addition of a new HD upgrade to give OSR a bit of a boost without sacrificing its low-poly identity.
Worlds apart
That’s just the surface level of what RuneFest 2025 has to offer. How about the introduction of a modding platform for Old School RuneScape Project Zanaris with playtest sign-ups now open? Or the introduction of RuneScape Leagues to mainline RuneScape proper?
Yes, speaking of sinking your teeth into new content, how about RuneScape’s upcoming Havenhythe? This new area will let you take the fight to a variety of deadly Vampyres who’ll challenge you with new bosses, locations, skilling activities and more. That’s a whole host of new content and quests to keep your appetites fed all the way through to 2026.
Yes, when it comes to MMORPG action on your phone there’s a fair argument to be made that RuneScape sets the standard. But if you don’t feel that way why not go and take a look at the top 7 smartphone games like World of Warcraft instead to find even more MMOs on mobile?
