Even successful American Idol winners suffer a few losses here and there, including country crooner Scotty McCreery’s recent onstage fall during a live performance.
The “I Love You This Big” singer took a light tumble on stage, and the spill was captured on camera in a clip McCreery later shared and joked about on social media.
In a video the singer shared Wednesday to Instagram, which he captioned with the phrase “Stage: 1, Me: 0,” McCreery can be seen walking backward on stage. He then trips on a speaker and falls back, quickly recovering after the crowd reacts with a collective gasp.
“Who put that there?” McCreery jokingly asked after standing up and continuing with his performance.
The social media clip continues, with footage showing McCreery reacting to the moment while backstage.
“I haven’t done that in a minute,” the 31-year-old says. “Right on my wrist!”

Other tour crew members also react to the incident throughout the footage, with an off-camera person asking several of them to share their highlight of the night. “Scotty falling!” one responds, while another adds that he “was a little concerned,” but that watching McCreery fall “was a little enjoyable” once he learned the performer wasn’t seriously injured.
McCreery rose to national fame in 2011 when he won American Idol season 10 against runner-up (and fellow country star) Lauren Alaina.
Since appearing on the show, McCreery has mounted a steady career in the country space, across six albums (including one Platinum- and two Gold-certified LPs) and multiple singles, all but four of which have charted on the Billboard Hot 100 since 2011.
