She became emotional in the rooms after the game on Friday night, as her colleagues Dale Thomas and Matthew Richardson spoke glowingly about her contribution to the Seven team, and how sorely she will be missed.
“Unfortunately for us this is your last Friday night footy and we have had to request an army to come in and take care of what you’ve done (for the team),” Thomas said.
“On behalf of the Friday Night footy team, the entirety of Channel 7, and everybody around the football (industry), we just want to say we wish you all the very best.
“You’re going to make the most amazing mother. We can’t wait to see the little baby for you and Keegs (husband Keegan Brooksby).”
Richmond champion Richardson agreed, confirming that it was “taking an army of people to replace” Holmes.
Holmes said: “Thank you, guys. You’re going to make me get emotional.”
Thomas continued: “It’s incredible that you’re still here considering. It’s a testament to you but we cannot wait to see you and your next journey with Keegan and little baby ‘Daisy Richo’.”
Holmes has already confirmed that she is having a boy, and earlier Thomas had inquired if Dale or Matthew were names being considered.
“Do you know how many times I got asked tonight what the baby’s name is going to be?” Holmes said.
“I don’t even know,” but she did confirm that she had a shortlist.
“Everyone says just wait until you see him and one (name) will click,” she said.
“I’m not sure if Matthew or Dale are on there though.”
In Holmes’ absence, commentator Alister Nicholson will help out, while former AFLW star and media personality Kate McCarthy will do some boundary work.
“Thank you both. I’ll miss you,” Holmes said.
Urged to have a good rest, Holmes said she doesn’t “do chill” but would “see what happens”.
“I’m very, very excited and will be guided by this little guy,” she said.
Thomas: “The entirety of Channel 7, we’re obviously here to help and so is the whole footy world. You are loved universally. This is one thing that we have come to know.”
Fans on social media also whished Holmes all the best.
