- Aimee Lou Wood clarified that she wasn’t crying in public over a recent SNL sketch.
- The White Lotus season 3 star previously called the sketch “mean and unfunny.”
- Wood thanked her supporters on Instagram for speaking out on her behalf.
Though she took a firm public stance against Saturday Night Live‘s recent portrayal of her in its “The White Potus” sketch, The White Lotus season 3 star Aimee Lou Wood has clarified that she wasn’t crying over the SNL imitation in recent paparazzi photos that show the actress in tears.
After a media report noted that the star was photographed getting emotional in public following her criticism of the SNL bit, which saw actress Sarah Sherman wearing pronounced fake teeth in a jab at Wood’s appearance, Wood addressed the situation Tuesday on her Instagram Story.
Wood reposted a comment from DJ Ashley James, who observed that Wood was “reduced to tears because of people tearing into” her appearance, though the White Lotus star clarified that she wasn’t crying over the matter.
“Thank you so much,” Wood wrote. “Just to say, I actually wasn’t crying about anything that the papers made out I was crying about. Something completely unrelated.”
Entertainment Weekly has reached out to representatives for Wood for more information.
Wood previously reacted to the SNL sketch and Sherman’s portrayal, writing on the social media site, “I did find the SNL thing mean and unfunny.”

She added that Sherman’s portrayal of her was “such a shame cuz I had such a great time watching it a couple weeks ago.”
The 31-year-old finished by urging the show to “take the piss for sure” because “that’s what the show is about,” but that “there must be a cleverer, more nuanced, less cheap way” than resorting to poking fun at her looks.
Aired over the weekend as part of the Jon Hamm-hosted episode, SNL‘s “The White Potus” pre-recorded video sketch parodied members of the Trump family and their political allies as White Lotus character types (complete with a Scarlett Johansson cameo as Ivanka Trump).

Sherman’s appearance marked the only nonpolitical character in the bit, with the star portraying Wood’s likeness while the other stars all played real-life political figures like Donald Trump, Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and more.
Wood, who also starred in Netflix’s Sex Education series, earned standout critical praise for her role in The White Lotus season 3, which followed the dramatic happenings surrounding a group of wealthy resort guests and staff of a wellness resort in Thailand.
