White Lotus Fans TORN By Show’s Shocking Incest Twist!

The White Lotus just gave “brotherly love” a whole new meaning — one many fans think was the show finally going too far!

Viewers tuning into Sunday’s episode of the HBO drama were in for quite the surprise when brothers Saxon, played by Patrick Schwarzenegger, and Lochlan, played by Sam Nivola, crossed a MAJOR line: INCEST.

During a scene set outside of the White Lotus resort, the brothers partied with two female characters: Chloe, played by Charlotte Le Bon, and Chelsea, played by Aimee Lou Wood. In an alcohol- and drug-induced stupor, sex-obsessed Saxon dares the women to kiss — before they flip the script and dare him and his younger brother to do the same! And they DO!

Lochlan goes right in for it — multiple times, in fact — and leaves Saxon looking stunned, shocked, and… Kind of interested? See stills from the wild scene (below):

It didn’t take long for viewers to rush to X (Twitter) to share their thoughts… Some criticizing everything about the scene, and others just letting the drama take them for the VERY wild ride it’s presenting:

“Just saw the incest clip, guess it’s time to tune in to white lotus because what the actual f**k”

“brother incest here to save the day yet again”

“Saxon enjoyed that kiss a bit too much”

“maybe i spent too much time in frat houses in college but i didn’t think the gay incest in last night’s episode of white lotus was that shocking”

“goodnight apparently incest won in the white lotus tonight”

“I can’t tell if everyone is actually hyped for incest on the white lotus of if they’re hyped for the storyline”

Others were just shocked to see such a wild and icky taboo conjured up by creator Mike White:

“This entire season is about deviancy. It’s actually disgusting.”

“white lotus starting to real life weird me out with the pushing of the incestuous narrative like what is going on”

“nahhh they’re going down the incest route on white lotus”

Well, it’s not like HBO hasn’t signed off on incestual storylines before. We’re looking at you, Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon…

A third camp of viewers genuinely just couldn’t believe anyone was “into” the scene:

“some of yall are a little too excited about the incest in white lotus”

“so many people casually revealing they’re into incest because of the white lotus”

“The incest kiss on white lotus is a no from me!!!! YUCK”

“Straight women and gay white men normalizing incest with white lotus…”

One user was just surprised to see Patrick — a straight-laced, Republican dude — involved with the kind of subject matter we’re seeing here:

“Mike White is so real for hiring that Republican ass Patrick Schwarzenegger to give us an incest story between two brothers. Only someone that horrible can give off such terrible vibes for something like this.”

Inneresting take! But it sounds like it wasn’t easy for him…

During an interview with Vulture published on Sunday, Charlotte Le Bon revealed it was “really difficult” to Patrick to film the scene with Sam:

“Well obviously they’re not brothers by blood, so that made it easier. I think for Patrick it was really difficult. For Sam, he was kind of like, ‘It’s whatever, let’s just do it well one time and it will be over.’ You know? Because if you don’t do it well the first time, then you have to do it over and over again.”

Ha! We imagine what plenty of folks would have done given that position with Patrick…

She continued:

“But Patrick’s reaction in the episode is his genuine reaction. We all thought he was going to throw up. And Sam was like, ‘It’s fine, it’s just a kiss, calm down!”

HA!

In a separate interview with GQ also published on Sunday, Sam opened up about all the ways they shot the controversial scene:

“We shot it a few different ways, and we talked about it a lot. I think at the end of the day, it was supposed to just be like they’re all really f**ked up, and, of course, kissing your brother is incredibly wrong and weird and gross. But I think as is the case with The White Lotus, it’s like these crazy actions and sort of heightened reality coming from really real emotions that are actually really relatable to your everyday guy.”

We don’t know how relatable this incest angle is… Speaking about his character Lochlan, he added:

“He just is desperate for his brother’s approval and he’s out doing this partying drug thing with Saxon, which is a thing that Saxon keeps talking about, and all he talks about is sex. He’s like, ‘Sex is the main point of life. You need to get laid. That’s what you need.’ I’m like, ‘Okay. Well, in this charged sexual environment, what can I do to make you notice me and get you to approve of me?’ And then, he does the wrong thing to make that happen.”

He also noted he and Patrick had minimal discussions about the scene before shooting it:

“I think that’s what we wound up deciding is we’re going to let our instincts and Mike’s [White] direction take the reins and let the audience interpret this weird thing that we have going on, because that’s the way of movies and TV. So we also didn’t want to make any hard and fast decisions about what we wanted the dynamic to be until we were on set.”

He also hinted that “everything changes” for his character going forward after the kiss:

“It was basically like there’s two versions of me. There’s before that and after that, and that was a really important thing. But other than that, I don’t think that is something that is a defining aspect of my character, of Lochlan. Of course, the way it’s edited and the way it looks, it is really sort of raunchy and there’s moments leading up to that are really sexually charged. But I think really that’s supposed to be a red herring for the audience where really it’s just [that] Lochlan just wants attention and he just wants his brother to like him. He gets really f**ked up and does something terrible.”

Something terribly controversial, that’s for sure! HA!
