‘Survivor’ reveals third round of fan voting categories for season 50

Attention, wannabe reality TV producers! It’s time for us to once again flex our muscles — albeit muscles not quite as prominent as David Kinne’s or Joe Hunter’s — and prove how smart we are when it comes to making important decisions that will directly impact the most important season in Survivor history.

Which is to say, it’s almost time for another round of Survivor 50 fan voting. The latest round of fully sanctioned fan interference will once again be available when host Jeff Probst officially opens the round three voting during tonight’s episode of Survivor 48, and then folks can go to https://survivor50cbs.votenow.tv/ to vote.

While one Survivor 48 player will win the coveted immunity necklace on tonight’s episode, fans will actually be able to vote on the look of the season 50 immunity necklace, making the island jewelry the latest design element viewers can control. (Fans also decided the tribe colors in the first round of voting.)

The necklace itself may not impact the actual gameplay, but the other categories open for voting will. Viewers will also vote on if the players will be given supplies like a pot, machete, and flint as in early seasons, or if they will have to earn them via a challenge, task, or some other method, as has become standard in the post-Winners at War new era of the show.

The final category open for voting is sure to be the one most open to debate among fans, as the question centers around just how twisty they want Survivor 50 to be. Do they want lots of twists thrown in to shake things up, or would they prefer to see a pure, old-school Survivor experience? The third category takes aim at that, posing the following question to fans: “The right twist at the right moment can change the game for players in exciting ways. But some fans prefer a more straightforward game where strategic alliances are all that matter. Which are you?”

That question mirrors earlier categories that have asked fans whether they want more of what they have seen in the extra crispy new era, or if they would prefer a return to the classic Survivor recipe. During the last round, viewers voted on just how powerful they wanted advantages to be, and in the first round, they voted between the final four fire-making competition and Fiji-set after-show off the island and an old-school, regular final four Tribal Council and a live reunion show in Los Angeles.

Of course, the players won’t know what the fans have chosen until they hit the island in a few months. We have to imagine they are hoping for all the free rice and tribe supplies they can get. But will viewers oblige?
