We almost got a Crash Bandicoot movie

We almost got a Crash Bandicoot movie

In a recent interview with The Game Business, Shuji Utsumi, current CEO of SEGA America and SEGA Europe, made quite an interesting revelation.

Upon entering the gaming industry, Utsumi went to Hollywood with a view to proposing an adaptation. He intended to produce a feature film for Crash Bandicoot. At the time, the mascot of the first PlayStation was very popular. Alas, the project didn’t go through.

"When I started to get involved in the video game business, I picked up Crash Bandicoot and started asking some of the movie studios if they were interested in turning that property into a movie."

"But I was treated like… ‘hey, video games is like a toy business’. They didn’t really take it seriously."

Since then, the trend has been reversed with all the adaptations that have appeared in recent years.
