*Kym Whitley, a three-time NAACP Image Award winner for her podcast “Two Funny Mamas” and a Daytime Emmy nominee for “The Bay,” joins Adam Sandler in the highly anticipated Netflix sequel “Happy Gilmore 2.”

Nearly 30 years after the original, Whitley enters the iconic golf comedy as a new character, bringing her signature humor honed in shows like “Curb Your Enthusiasm” and “Act Your Age.” “It’s just fun. It’s a joy to be with them,” she says of the Happy Madison family, having previously collaborated with Sandler on “Hubie Halloween.”

The set of “Happy Gilmore 2” buzzed with excitement, Whitley recalls. “Everybody is just laughing with all these different people,” she shares, describing the vibrant energy among stars like Ben Stiller, Julie Bowen, Bad Bunny, and cameos from Eminem and Post Malone.

The lack of pretense fostered creativity: “On an Adam Sandler set, everybody is the same. Adam doesn’t play that.” That openness gave her the freedom to improvise, with Sandler telling her to “do your thing.” As Whitley explained, “There was room for improv… You have to come in not tied to the script, and ready to pivot.”

Even surrounded by A-listers, Whitley never forgets the value of authenticity. “Adam wants you to steal the scene. He wants you to be hilarious.”

Whitley’s scenes were comedic highlights, from a chaotic hill-running sequence in heels — “I was like, you want me to run with all this in the front?”– to Ben Stiller’s relentless character work that kept the cast laughing. “Ben is a fool,” she says, noting his commitment to method acting even at lunch.

Despite the hilarity, professionalism held firm: “They know if they bust out laughing, they can ruin a good take,” she said of the cast.

As a veteran of TV, film, and podcasts like her Signal Award-winning “Kym” with Lena Waithe, Whitley values projects with meaning. She hopes “Happy Gilmore 2” inspires family viewing and introduces her to younger audiences, encouraging them to revisit the original.

“I hope that this brings back family time… that everyone can enjoy the movie and sit down and have a good laugh.”

For Whitley, working with comedy legends like Sandler and Stiller, alongside a message-driven story, makes this sequel a career highlight.
