Those who were at St. Peter’s Basilica on Thursday afternoon posted photos or social stories, sent selfies to friends or tried to be immortalized by the hundreds of cameras that came from all over the world to document the election of the new Pope.
Among the crowd, however, someone also tried, failing completely, to blend in. Harry Styles was spotted right in the Vatican square, looking out onto that balcony from which Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost, would soon be emerge.

The former member of One Direction mingled among the faithful wearing a blue jacket, dark sunglasses and a gray baseball cap emblazoned with the words “Techno is My Boyfriend,” known to fashion addicts for being particularly beloved of Valentino’s creative director Alessandro Michele, a close friend of the singer, whom he met during his time working as a designer for Gucci.
The hat, sold by Idea, became almost unobtainable after photos of the star in Rome went viral, immediately triggering the irony of users, who especially on X indulged in hilarious comments. Like one who, next to an image of the new pontiff facing the crowd, wrote, “The Pope did not know he was greeting Harry Styles.”

Another, on the other hand, tells of exchanging a couple of jokes with him, “I met this guy on my way home tonight. We started chatting and I said, ‘You look just like Harry Styles,’ and he said, ‘It’s because I am Harry Styles.'”
From what we can tell, no one seems to have bothered him much, but if Styles’ intent was to enjoy the solemn moment of the Pope’s investiture anonymously, judging by the amount of paparazzi around the web, the mission can be said to have failed miserably.
