In the annals of iconic cult hits, the Advance Wars series and its at-once vast but granular strategy are one of the constants. No surprise then that Chucklefish’s riff on the format with the Wargroove series has proved so popular. Now, you’ll be able to enjoy that same style of strategic combat in the palm of your hand with Wargroove 2: Pocket Edition set to launch July 30th
The Advance Wars-like sees you engaging in turn-based battles on a grid-based map, where carefully picking and choosing your engagements is key to victory. Wargroove 2 expands on the original with a 20-hour campaign and three interweaving stories to enjoy.
In terms of features, Wargroove 2 is certainly not lacking either. You’ll have a bundled-in map editor to create and share your own levels, while local multiplayer utilises a hot seat method that lets you pass your device to a friend so they can play their turn, and vice-versa!

But that’s not all! How about regular online multiplayer and cross-play between different versions of Wargrooves 2? You also have a cast of 20+ commanders and six factions to choose from, with different ultimate moves called (fittingly) Grooves that can turn the tide of battle.
And yes, there are also in-depth customisation tools, as well as an entire roguelike campaign that puts your tactical abilities to the ultimate test. All this and more is coming to iOS and Android for $8.99, no doubt tempting for newcomers and veterans alike. However, if you opt to pre-order, you can enjoy a dollar off that asking price.
