Wait. What?! DoorDash Has A Layaway Plan for Fast Food – The Journal of Steffanie Rivers | WATCH

*While everybody is talking about the latest move by Donald Trump to declare himself king, there’s some other less-talked-about news that I think is even more important and indicative of a bigger problem: DoorDash is going to allow users to buy now and pay later for their fast-food deliveries.
The food and merchandise delivery company is following the Rent-A-Center layaway model: Open an account, order fast food, and have it delivered with the promise to pay later with fees and interest added for the convenience of doing so.
If you ask anyone with a basic understanding of how compound interest works and who has actually rented furniture from one of those buy now pay later furniture stores, they will admit they pay more over time for the furniture than what it’s worth.
You can pay $300 one time for the couch or pay probably double that amount after interest and fees are added. It’s the same as when you purchase a vehicle or a house, except most people can’t afford to pay up front for a vehicle or a house.

Now DoorDash is going to allow you to go into debt over a burger and fries or a couple of tacos. That’s more money for them.
The sad part is there are some people who will actually fall for the banana in the tailpipe and put fast food on layaway. Most fast food is not healthy and now some people are going to go into debt just to consume it.
I’m sure some people use DoorDash because they have mobility issues that keep them from getting their own fast food, but the majority of people probably are just lazy!
Buy-now-Pay-later-services reached $18 billion during the 2024 holiday shopping season. Add to that fast food delivery and the fact that some people rarely if ever cook at home, that could double in no time. Would you put your fast-food on layaway?
