Ubisoft confirms creation of new subsidiary with Tencent as minority investor

The news comes as no surprise, since the rumor had been circulating on the Internet for several weeks. Ubisoft has confirmed the creation of a brand-new subsidiary dedicated to its biggest licenses.
This new group will encompass the Assassin’s Creed, Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six and Far Cry sagas. Tencent will act as a minority investor, disbursing 1.16 billion euros (25% of total shares). The press release also tells us more about the precise functions of this subsidiary.
"This new subsidiary will focus on building game ecosystems designed to become truly evergreen and multi-platform. Backed by greater investment and boosted creative capacities, it will drive further increases in quality of narrative solo experiences, expand multiplayer offerings with increased frequency of content release, introduce free-to-play touchpoints, and integrate more social features."
The division is worth around 4 billion euros. Ubisoft believes it will be able to strengthen its balance sheet and accelerate the growth of its franchises thanks to this strategy. The publisher still has full control of the division, which will operate on its own under a team of managing directors
