*A heated public clash broke out Thursday between President Donald Trump and billionaire Elon Musk, with personal jabs and mentions of the Jeffrey Epstein case.

The escalating conflict, unfolding across Truth Social and X, has raised questions about the future of Musk’s federal contracts and their once-close alliance. As Deadline reports, the feud ignited when Musk publicly criticized Trump’s domestic megabill, calling it a “disgusting abomination” due to its cost and potential impact on the national debt. Trump retaliated on Truth Social, threatening to terminate Musk’s government subsidies and contracts, stating, “The easiest way to save money in our Budget, Billions and Billions of Dollars, is to terminate Elon’s Governmental Subsidies and Contracts. I was always surprised that Biden didn’t do it!”

He also claimed Musk was “wearing thin” and that he “asked him to leave” his White House role, adding, “I took away his EV Mandate that forced everyone to buy Electric Cars that nobody else wanted (that he knew for months I was going to do!), and he just went CRAZY!”

Musk fired back on X, dismissing Trump’s claim about being asked to leave as “an obvious lie” and “so sad.” As ABC News reports, he then escalated the spat by invoking Jeffrey Epstein, alleging Trump’s involvement in the federal investigation files, writing, “That is the real reason they have not been made public. Have a nice day, DJT!”

Musk warned, “Mark this post for the future. The truth will come out.” He also endorsed a post advocating for Trump’s impeachment.

In response to Trump’s threat to cancel contracts, Musk announced, “In light of the president’s statement about the cancellation of my government contracts, SpaceX will begin decommissioning its Dragon spacecraft immediately,” referring to the vehicles critical for NASA’s International Space Station missions.

Speaking to reporters at the White House on Thursday, Deadline reports that Trump expressed disappointment, saying, “Look, Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore.” In a Friday phone call with CNN’s Dana Bash, he doubled down, stating, “I’m not even thinking about Elon. He’s got a problem.”

Despite Musk later softening his stance on decommissioning SpaceX’s Dragon spacecraft, two Trump administration officials indicated the president has no interest in reconciliation. According to Newsweek, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles confirmed there are no plans for the two to speak.
