Tory Lanez has been rushed to the hospital after a prison altercation on Monday.
The Canadian-born rapper, whose real name is Daystar Peterson, was attacked by another inmate at approximately 7:20 a.m. during an altercation in the housing unit of the California Correctional Institution at Tehachapi, Deputy Press Secretary Pedro Calderón Michel at the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation confirmed to Entertainment Weekly.

“Staff immediately responded, activated 911, and began medical aid. Peterson was subsequently transported to an outside medical facility for further treatment,” Michel said in a statement.
Lanez, 31, was taken to a civilian hospital in Bakersfield following the reported stabbing, which is said to be non-life-threatening, according to TMZ.
CCI’s Investigative Services Unit and the Kern County District Attorney’s Office have initiated an investigation, and the Office of the Inspector General has been notified, according to Michel of the Office of Public and Employee Communications.
The rapper is currently serving a 10-year sentence in state prison for the 2020 shooting of Megan Thee Stallion. Lanez was found guilty in December 2023 of all three felony firearm counts against him, including assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle, and discharging a firearm with gross negligence, for shooting Stallion (real name Megan Pete) in her foot after a party in the Hollywood Hills at Kylie Jenner’s house in July 2020. He faced up to 22 years in prison and the possibility of deportation.
Jurors came to their decision after a nine-day trial and Lanez filed a motion for a new trial, which was ultimately denied.

In a conversation with Gayle King in April 2022, Megan said an argument stemmed from her wanting to leave Jenner’s house, but her companions, including Lanez, did not. It escalated when she stepped out of the car, and “all I hear is this man screaming. And he said, ‘Dance, b—-.’ And he started shooting,” she recalled to King, referencing Lanez. “He shot a couple of times. And I was so scared.”
As the prosecution’s witness, Megan took the stand that December and testified about the shooting’s toll on her physical and mental health, sharing that she experienced suicidal thoughts. “I can’t even be happy,” she said. “I can’t hold conversations with people for a long time. I don’t feel like I want to be on this Earth. I wish he would have just shot and killed me if I knew I would have to go through this torture.”

“This situation has only been worse for me and it has only made him more famous,” Megan added of the media coverage. “Because I was shot, I’ve been turned into some kind of villain, and he’s the victim. This has messed up my whole life… This whole situation in the industry is like a big boy’s club… I’m telling on one of y’all friends, now you’re all about to hate me.”
Following his conviction, Lanez took to social media to say he refused to apologize “for something that I did not do.”
“I have never let a hard time intimidate me. I will never let no jail time eliminate me,” Lanez wrote in a statement shared on Instagram. “Regardless of how they try to spin my words, I have always maintained my innocence and I always will.”
He said he “took full responsibility for all verbal and intimate moments that I shared with the parties involved” and “that’s it,” adding, “In no way shape or form was I apologizing for the charges I’m being wrongfully convicted of. I remain on the stance that I refuse to apologize for something that I did not do.”
Lanez also noted that he refused “to stop fighting till I come out victorious. Tough times don’t last, tough people do.”
Last June, Lanez’s wife, Raina Chassagne, filed for divorce from the rapper after less than a year of marriage. Chassagne asked for legal and physical custody of the pair’s 7-year-old son, Kai’lon Peterson.

Amid his legal troubles, Lanez has continued to record music. He released his album Peterson in March, on which he claimed that his former attorney, Shawn Holley, was in some way associated with Roc Nation, with whom Megan signed a management deal in 2019. He also claimed he made in an ethics complaint against his lawyer.
On May 9, Lanez teased his 11.3 million followers about another album set to be released in the summer. “NEW ALBUM. NEW GENRE : SLUTTY BASS 🪘” he captioned the post, in part.
In January, Megan was granted a five-year restraining order against Lanez, requesting that the Los Angeles Superior Court judge prevent Lanez from allegedly harassing Megan from prison through third parties while he serves a 10-year sentence in jail.
Judge Richard Bloom confirmed the order in the Superior Court of California in Los Angeles County after Megan had “sustained burden of proof” in a compelling case, via Variety.
