Meet the musicians auditioning as Keith Urban’s opening act in ‘The Road’

Keith Urban’s opening act for his upcoming tour is the entire cast of a new music competition series.

CBS reality show The Road will feature 12 emerging musicians who will compete against each other by performing as Urban’s opening act at music venues across the country. The docu-drama format will chronicle their experience living the life of a touring musician, made even more brutal as each of the 12 singers, songwriters, and instrumentalists will face elimination at each stop.

Urban, as well as executive producers Blake Shelton and Taylor Sheridan, “tour manager” Gretchen Wilson, and other country music star guests who will be announced later, will judge the contestants after each performance. Plus, the live venue audience will help determine who advances to the next city’s tour stop.

By the end, only one musician will remain to win and claim the grand prize — which has yet to be revealed.

This isn’t Urban’s first foray into music competition TV. The Grammy-winning “Somebody Like You” singer recently appeared on The Voice as the show’s mega mentor, replacing outgoing mega mentor Wynonna Judd and joining season 25 coaches Chance the Rapper, Dan + Shay, John Legend, and Reba McEntire. He previously served as a judge on American Idol and the Australian version of The Voice.

The Road will premiere this fall on Sundays at 9 p.m. ET/PT on CBS and streaming on Paramount+.
