The support studio Side has been hit by redundancies

July 22, 7 p.m. update

Side has clarified the situation in a statement issued by one of its spokespersons. The redundancies actually concern fewer than a dozen people, and only in the co-development sector.

"While we can’t speak of any specific employee situation, as one of the world’s largest game services companies, we make decisions every month to develop and contract multiple teams, based on customer work, project status and business needs. This is the very nature of a service company, working in partnership with the world’s leading developers and publishers. Games have different staffing and experience requirements at different stages of the development cycle."

"Side is deeply grateful to the impacted team members for their hard work, passion, and contributions to our projects and our clients. Their dedication has helped us uphold the high standards expected by our partners and players around the world. We thank them for being a part of our journey and remain committed to supporting them through this transition."

New layoffs were announced this week. This time, it’s Side’s turn, a studio founded in 1994 and previously known as Ghostpunch Games, to be impacted.

On LinkedIn, several now-former employees of the company have stated they are looking for new employment. This concerns all business sectors of the firm, such as game designers and software engineers.

Since its beginnings, Side has helped develop several major projects. We can notably cite the most recent ones such as Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2, Star Wars Outlaws, Civilization VII, Silent Hill 2, and Baldur’s Gate 3.
