A prototype GPD handheld console, equipped with the Ryzen AI MAX+ 395 (Strix Halo) APU, has appeared on social networks. This model features 16 Zen 5 cores and a Radeon 8060S graphics chip with 40 RDNA 3.5 processing units.
According to a shared 3DMark TimeSpy score, the device achieves 10,366 points in graphics, around three times the performance of the Radeon 890M present in Strix Point APUs.
Strix Halo has a TDP of 120W, but can be reduced to 20-25W. Even at these levels, initial tests show a clear advantage over current APUs used in portable consoles. It remains to be seen whether this prototype will result in a final product, bearing in mind that this type of configuration could prove costly.
