The PS5 has surpassed the PS4 in US sales… but the Xbox Series is lagging behind

Mat Piscatella of Circana is back once again with the monthly figures for the video game industry in the United States.
In February 2025, hardware sales were down 25% year-on-year. Consoles generated $256 million, compared with $341 million for the same period the previous year. This is the lowest result for a February since the $184 million recorded in February 2020.
Even so, the PS5 remains in the lead, outperforming PS4 sales by 7% over a similar period in the U.S. (52 months after launch). The PS5 recorded 75 million sales worldwide, compared with 117.2 million for the PS4 over its entire lifecycle.
Alas, the Xbox Series can’t say the same, having sold 19% fewer units than the Xbox One after 52 months on the market. The Xbox Series is said to have sold around 32 million units, while the Xbox One sold 57.9 million units at the end of its life.
