The next Resident Evil movie could be a significant departure from the games

The Resident Evil saga is about to get a new reboot. The feature film is directed by Zach Cregger (Barbarian) and is due to hit cinemas in September 2026.
In an interview with SFX Magazine, the director talked about the adaptation. First of all, he introduced himself as a great fan of the saga, while pointing out that he has all the games. He even claims to have replayed Resident Evil 4 countless times. However, Cregger did mention that his film won’t totally obey the story and lore of the video games.
Above all, he wants to “tell a story that feels authentic to the experience of playing the games ”. While Zach believes he won’t be breaking “any major rules ” of the saga, he explains that he’s aware that fans will come looking for him on the Internet based on his choices.
In any case, Zach Cregger intends to “make a really good film and tell an exciting story ”.
