‘Grey’s Anatomy’ casts ‘Yellowstone’ star Piper Perabo to recur

Yellowstone actress Piper Perabo is headed to Grey Sloan Memorial Hospital.

She’s been cast in a recurring role on Grey’s Anatomy, ABC has confirmed to Entertainment Weekly. Her episodes are set to air May 1, 8, and, in the finale for season 21, on May 15.

Perabo’s character is Jenna Gatlin, whose official description is “a fierce mother to nine-year-old Dylan. Jenna will do anything for her daughter, who is at Grey Sloan as a candidate for a high-risk surgery.”

On the fourth and fifth seasons of Yellowstone, Perabo played Summer Higgins, an environmental activist and a love interest for Kevin Costner’s character, John Dutton. Perabo’s Summer also infamously butted heads with Dutton daughter Beth, who was played by Kelly Reilly.

Over more than two decades, Grey’s Anatomy has seen a stream of recognizable guest stars, including Rita Moreno, Ernie Hudson, Elisabeth Moss, Audra McDonald, and Jesse Plemmons.

Perabo certainly qualifies as someone audiences have seen before. She’s acted professionally since the late ʼ90s, with her breakthrough having been 2000’s Coyote Ugly. She was the main character, Violet, in the story of an aspiring singer-songwriter getting a gig at a bar where the servers dance on the counters.

She’s also appeared in movies such as Cheaper by the Dozen, The Prestige, Because I Said So, and Looper. Perabo has been seen on TV series including Covert Affairs, the action thriller on USA that she starred in from 2010 to 2014, as well as on the 2021 Fox dramedy The Big Leap and the Showtime drama Billions in 2022. In 2011, Perabo was nominated for the Golden Globe for best actress in a TV drama for Covert Affairs.

Grey’s Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes’ drama about the work and personal lives of doctors was renewed in September for a 22nd season.
