The Donkey Kong Bananza director warns of framerate drops

Although originally conceived for the first Switch, Donkey Kong Bananza was later transferred to the Switch 2. The reason for this is that the game is very resource-intensive, mainly due to the destructible aspect of its scenery.

In a recent interview, director Kazuya Takahashi opened up about framerate drops during sequences of mass destruction. The developers wanted to emphasize fun rather than frame rate.

"There are several factors to take into account. Firstly, we intentionally used effects such as stop motion and slow motion to emphasize impact. Secondly, as we use voxel technology, there are times when the environment undergoes significant change and destruction. We are aware that performance may drop slightly at these times. However, as you said, the game is fluid overall, and at times when large-scale changes occur, we’ve prioritized fun and playability."
