The Alters Prologue Map and Locations Guide

This guide will show you The Alters Prologue map, including points of interest, movies, collectibles, and mining veins for resources.
The Alters Prologue Map
The Alters Prologue map is fairly small, all things considered. It has no real hazards for you to worry about (other than the approaching sun) and only one obstacle — a single sheer cliff that you can’t climb without a specialized tool.
You’ll have way more time than you need before you have to leave the Prologue area, so it’s a good idea to fill up on as many resources as you can and prepare as much as possible before you move your Base onward to Act 1.
How to Fast Travel in The Alters
You can Fast Travel in The Alters from your Base to any other Mining Outpost or Travel Pylon. When you leave your Base, you’ll be presented with the map and you can select any point with an arrow over it. If you don’t have any valid Fast Travel targets built yet, you’ll just exit out into the world instead.
Aside from Fast Traveling from the Airlock, you can also Fast Travel by interacting with the console on the left side of Mining Outposts or Travel Pylons. A similar console exists at the bottom of the Base elevator so you don’t have to go back inside to Fast Travel elsewhere.
Notable Locations in The Alters Prologue
Here are the notable locations you’ll encounter on The Alters Prologue map:
Learn Climbing Hook
This cliff is too tall for you to climb. Attempt to interact with it and you’ll get a prompt about the Climbing Hook. You can then return to the Base and craft the Climbing Hook.
Strictly speaking, the Climbing Hook is not necessary to make it up to the Deep Organics Vein on the higher cliff; there is an alternate path that goes around. However, you will need the Climbing Hook for the later Acts and you may as well craft it now before you have to face tougher challenges in the future.
The History of the Universe, Lava Lamp, and Class Photo
You can get your first Movie and your first two Collectibles just outside of the Base. These items will come in handy in the future when your Alters are in a bad mood, so make sure you pick them up.
Movies, in particular, are important because they can be used to boost the mood of all of your Alters if you spend a couple of hours watching it together in the Base. You should never pass up the opportunity to pick up a Movie!
Multitool
The Multitool is the third Collectible that you can get in the Prologue. As with the other Collectibles, you’ll want to make sure you grab it before you leave the Prologue area and head into Act 1.
