Texas floods: Country music star Pat Green’s brother and family swept away

Country music star Pat Green has been left devastated by the reported death of his brother and sister-in-law, as the toll from the Texas floods continues to climb.

The singer, who hails from San Antonio, Texas, posted a statement on social media telling fans his family have “suffered a heartbreaking and deeply personal loss”.

His wife, Tori Green, shared the same statement but added more details, revealing Pat’s younger brother John Burgess, his wife, Julia Anderson Burgess, and their two sons were swept away in floodwaters.

“We are heartbroken and anxiously waiting for all of them to be found. Thank you for your prayers,” she said.

John has since been found dead according to local media, KWTX, while Julia’s body was recovered yesterday, according to KHOU. Their sons Jack and James are still unaccounted for.

It’s understood the family were at a caravan park in the Kerrville area for the Fourth of July weekend.

They were on their way to pick up their daughter, Jenna, who was at a nearby summer camp, which was unaffected by floods. The little girl is safe.

Lorena Guillen, the owner of the Blue Oak RV Park, said her husband tried to help John as he clung to a tree before being swept away.

“My husband was in the water trying to ask them, ‘Please throw me your baby!’ The man was holding tight to his babies, and he just got swept away,” she told The New York Post.

The catastrophic flash flooding late last week hit Kerr County hardest.

Green had previously postponed a scheduled concert he was set to perform on Saturday, writing in a post on his Facebook page that “due to the unforeseen weather and tragedy around the Texas Hill Country,” he decided to postpone the concert to a later date.

“Our prayers go out to all the folks affected by the floods in the Texas Hill Country,” he added.

Torrential downpour over several central Texas counties on Thursday evening into Friday caused catastrophic flooding of the Guadalupe river, killing more than 100 people as of yesterday.
