Claes Rosen “If This World Were Mine”

*Claes Rosen, a Swedish music producer and artist recognized for his emotive, melody-rich approach to electronic music, has released a rendition of the Motown hit “If This World Were Mine.” The song, originally recorded by Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrell, was first released in 1967.

With a career spanning over a decade, Rosen has shaped a signature sound rooted in electronic music, infused with elements of soul, jazz, chillout, and a touch of retro nostalgia. Characterized by a refined sense of atmosphere, groove, and emotional depth, his productions — anchored by dreamy textures and emotionally rich, cinematic melodies — feature qualities that have made his music resonate with listeners across genres and borders.

Rosen is also one half of the influential dubstep duo L-Wiz, a project that played a formative role in shaping the early melodic bass movement. As part of L-Wiz, he helped pioneer a more expressive, ambient-forward style of dubstep, earning acclaim for pushing the genre’s creative boundaries.

Beyond the club and festival circuit, Claes has contributed music to film, television, and commercial media, demonstrating a versatile sound that adapts fluidly to different contexts while maintaining its emotional core. His work has been released on respected labels and featured in editorial playlists, radio rotations, and international sync campaigns.

Through both solo and collaborative work, Claes Rosen continues to be regarded as a producer with a signature sound—one that bridges electronic sophistication with heartfelt storytelling.

Regarding “If This World Were Mine” Rosen says, “This track has been with me for over 10 years. It started out as a remix of a different song that never really landed. I shelved it — like so many other ideas — and forgot about it for a while. Then a few years later, I opened it again, and something just clicked. I knew I had something special. It felt like one of the best songs I’d ever made. But it contained copyrighted material, so officially releasing it? Not an option.”

He goes on to say, “Then came 2020. The world was upside down. I came back to the track, and the vocals hit me in a new way. The message — about what’s broken in the world and the hope for something better, [the notion of] if this world were mine — suddenly felt heavier, deeper, more important than ever. With the pandemic, conflict erupting in Europe, and all the uncertainty, the timing just felt right.”

After navigating through several legal roadblocks, and obtaining publishing clearances Rosen stated, “In 2024, I went for it. I found someone who truly understood the tone and feeling I was after. I spent weeks editing, shaping the sound, tweaking every detail — until I had a version I could fully stand behind. One that kept the soul of the original, ready to be shared with the world…finally, it’s happening, it’s real!”

Although “If This World Were Mine” has been covered by many, most notably the 1982 version by Luther Vandross and Cheryl Lynn, Rosen’s version breathes a refreshingly new life into the song. Recommended!
