Suki Waterhouse says she was hospitalized due to hernia from tight pants

Let Suki Waterhouse’s latest revelation serve as a warning to the fashionistas of the world — make sure your pants fit properly!

On Monday, the Memoir of a Sparklemuffin singer broke a brief social media break to explain her absence to her 166,500 X (formerly Twitter) followers. The 33-year-old shared that she hasn’t been posting because she’s been scared to reveal that she got a hernia — a gap in the muscular wall that’s commonly found in the abdomen or groin area — from wearing tight pants.

“‘Suki you never tweet anymore,'” she wrote in a post on July 14. “Have you ever considered I wore pants so tight 6 months ago it caused a hernia & I’ve been too scared to tell you?”

In a follow-up post, the Daisy Jones and the Six star shared a photo of herself performing during her Memoir of a Sparklemuffin tour and wearing a figure-hugging pair of leather pants. The performance photo was paired with a selfie taken from a hospital bed.

Social media absence aside, Waterhouse is due to return to the stage on Aug. 7, when her tour hits Aspen, Colo.

The singer has been pulling double duty as a touring musician and new mom over a year after giving birth to her first child with fiancé Robert Pattinson.

The couple, who got engaged in December 2023, has largely kept their relationship out of the public eye over the years and haven’t revealed the name of their daughter. Although they were first linked together back in July 2018, the pair didn’t make their red carpet debut until December 2022.

Waterhouse first announced that she and Pattinson were expecting a baby when she unveiled her growing baby bump during her performance at the Corona Capital Festival last November.

“I’m extra sparkly today because I thought it might distract you from something else that’s going on,” she told concert attendees at the time, who cheered as she opened up her jacket to reveal her stomach. “I’m not sure if it’s working.”

While they’ve been keeping details about their little one under wraps, the couple isn’t shy to open up about their relationship.

During an interview with British Vogue last July, Waterhouse said that Pattinson, 38, remains unbothered by her exes, even as she explores past heartbreak in her music. In fact, the singer said her fiancé has “a lot of humor about that kind of stuff.” 

“He couldn’t really give a s—,” she added. “He’s like, ‘No one’s better than me, so whatever.’”

Waterhouse also opened up about the “intense” start of her relationship with Pattinson. The couple met while playing Werewolf at an L.A. game night with a star-studded lineup of competitors.

“There were lots of ‘big’ characters, real heavy hitters,” she said. “Al Pacino was there. Javier [Bardem] and Penelope [Cruz] were there… and, you know, everyone was really acting.”

Their aversion to the intensity was part of what brought her and Pattinson together. “I think we both sort of have the same slight uncomfortable-ness,” she explained, adding that they quickly “started giggling at the absurdity of the whole thing” and eventually “got told off” and separated.

It would be “six or seven months” until they ran into each other again, but Waterhouse said that night “had percolated” something special. 

Several years later, the duo are navigating the early stages of parenthood. Waterhouse called Pattinson “the dad I could have hoped for,” adding, “I mean a dad and his daughter? It’s an actual love story.”
