Despite a flashy pre-launch crossover event featuring Super Monkey Ball, Altered Beast, and other Sega classics, Sonic Rumble won’t be making its global debut just yet. The multiplayer battle royale was originally gearing up for a full launch, riding high on over 1.4 million pre-registrations. But now, Sega’s hit the brakes, at least for a little while.
Sonic Rumble’s delay comes as the team prepares update 1.2, which promises to shake up the toybox world Dr. Eggman crafted with brand new features like Rumble Rankings, Crews, and character Skills. These additions aim to deepen the core gameplay, giving you more to chase than just a chaotic win.
Rumble Rankings will let you climb seasonal leaderboards for rewards, while Crews allow you and your friends to complete score missions together. Then there’s the new Skills system, which outfits characters with special powers for added strategic flair.
But instead of rushing to roll these out mid-launch, Sega opted to hold off and take the time needed to get things right. Don’t worry, though, a Q&A session is set for May 2nd on Discord, where you can hear about what’s next and drop whatever questions you have.

The delay doesn’t cancel out the momentum the game’s already built. All pre-registration rewards are still locked in, including 5,000 Rings, a Crystal Chao Buddy, the Happy Sticker, the Garnet Knuckles skin, and even a slick Movie Sonic skin for hitting that 1.4 million milestone. So, when launch day does roll around, you’ll be starting with a solid stash.
