Shannon Welcomes His Brother To The Hall Of Fame At Gold Jacket Dinner

The Gold Jacket Dinner in Canton, Ohio, occurred on Friday, August 1, as Sterling and the Pro Football Hall of Fame’s Class of 2025 took their place among football’s elite. And who was waiting on stage, eyes glistening with tears? None other than Sterling’s baby brother, Shannon. The ‘Club Shay Shay’ host was ready to drape that iconic gold jacket over his big bro’s shoulders. When Sterling hit the stage, the two locked in a hug that screamed, “We made it!” Mind you, the Sharpe brothers are the first siblings to both claim this honor together.

Shannon Responds After Being Let Go At ESPN

Just days before this heartfelt moment, Shannon was hit with a devastating blow. ESPN cut ties with him. But it was the timing of his exit that didn’t sit well with him. The Pro Football Hall of Famer, who joined the network’s ‘First Take’ as a recurring panelist in late 2023, confirmed the split on his ‘Nightcap’ podcast on Wednesday, July 30.

“I found out earlier this week, and I really asked, ‘Guys, could we wait until Monday?’ My brother’s going into the Pro Football Hall of Fame, I want it to be about him and my family,” Shannon spilled, clearly hurt that the news dropped right before Sterling’s big weekend.

While he accepted the decision, Shannon wasn’t too pleased about the whole thing potentially overshadowing his brother’s moment. “The first two brothers in the Hall of Fame, and this is the headline?” he asked. The 57-year-old said he went on to apologize to Sterling, who he claimed had brushed it off like a true big brother. Shannon also thanked ESPN for the opportunity, but wished they’d held off on the announcement a little longer.

Shannon Settles Lawsuit with Rape Accuser

Shannon’s ESPN exit came hot on the heels of settling a $50 million lawsuit filed in April 2025 by Gabriella Zuniga. In her court docs, she accused him of assault, sexual assault, battery, and sexual battery during a nearly two-year relationship. Meanwhile, the allegations included claims of rape in October 2024 and January of this year. But to clear his name, Shannon clapped back, calling it a “shakedown” and insisting their relationship was “100% consensual.” On July 18, the accuser’s attorney, Tony Buzbee, announced a settlement had been reached. “Both sides acknowledge a long-term consensual and tumultuous relationship. […] The matter is closed,” he wrote in a statement on X.

The lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice, meaning it can’t be refiled, and no criminal charges were filed. Shannon’s been quiet on the details but maintained his innocence from jump. This drama had him step away from ESPN in April. And while he planned to return for the NFL season, the network seemingly had other plans.
