Selena Gomez takes prom photos with Benny Blanco

This prom season, 32-year-old Selena Gomez’s first experience was captured in some iconic photos.

“My fiancée has never been to prom before, so I asked her if we should take prom photos together at a mall and she said yes!” Gomez’s fiancé Benny Blanco captioned a video he posted Thursday on Instagram. The clip featured images of the couple getting ready for their photo session and laughing together as posed for the kind of cheesy, retro photos typically captured at the high school event.

Blanco, who noted that he’d hired a limo for the special occasion, said the event was “more fun than either of us expected it to be.”

Footage showed her having her hair and makeup done and stepping out in a voluminous, rosy pink gown, while he sported a tux. They posed by a column, with her draped over his shoulder, and striking several other traditional couple’s poses in front of a background that photographed as sky blue. In one of them, Gomez climbed on the artist and music producer’s back. There was a lot of laughing, as the 1980 song “Just the Two of Us,” by Bill Withers and Grover Washington Jr., played.

Gomez was a star of children’s TV show Barney & Friends by the time she was 10, so it makes since she didn’t attend prom. At the age she would have gone to prom, she was already the star of Disney’s Wizards of Waverly Place and movies such as Ramona and Beezus and Monte Carlo, and she had released music with her band, Selena Gomez & the Scene.

Blanco explained earlier this month, during an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, that he decided to have a prom-themed party for the Only Murders in the Building star on his 37th birthday. He recalled that she had been anxious about exactly what would happen.

“She didn’t even know, she was like, ‘What am I supposed to wear? What am I supposed to do?!'” said Blanco, who had been to prom multiple times and thought to present Gomez with a corsage. “It was like she was really going to prom.”

Gomez publicly confirmed her relationship with Blanco, whom she began dating in 2023. In December, the two announced that they were engaged.

Blanco did another big romantic gesture on Valentine’s Day, when he presented her with a bathtub full of cheese. He captioned it, “when your fiancée isn’t much of a flowers girl.”
