Russell Hornsby and Michole Briana White Talk Broken Bonds, Blame, and Moving On in ‘BMF’ Season 4

*Meech and Terry may drive the headlines in the hit STARZ crime drama, “BMF,” but it’s Charles and Lucille Flenory who’ve been stuck cleaning up the emotional and spiritual mess left behind. In Season 4, that clean-up job is over. There’s no more pretending the family unit is intact. This season, it’s about survival, not together, but apart.

“This season, everybody’s separating,” said Michole Briana White, who plays Lucille. “You get to a point where you realize, you have to take care of yourself — because no one else is going to do it for you.”

Russell Hornsby, who plays Charles, agreed: “This is the season where the illusions fall away. Everyone is figuring out who they are without the structure of the family to hide behind.”

It’s not just a dramatic shift onscreen; it’s internal. Lucille is finally stepping into her own power, while Charles is left facing the consequences of past choices.

“Lucille is moving faster,” White shared. “Charles is stuck. She wants more, she wants to be free. But that tie between them hasn’t fully broken, and it slows her down. She’s still waiting for him to pull it together.”

When asked if either of them blamed their sons for how things fell apart, Hornsby was blunt.

“Charles blames himself,” he said. “He knows he didn’t do his job. Not as a husband. Not as a father. He finally looked in the mirror and asked, ‘What did I actually do with this life?’ And he didn’t like the answer.”

Still, Lucille continues to walk the line between faith and family, navigating how to love her children while still rejecting the life they’ve chosen.

“They’re doing things I don’t agree with,” White admitted. “But they’re still my kids. It’s not right — but it’s theirs. And there’s something in that… in how they created their own path, even if it’s one I wouldn’t have chosen. I think Lucille wants that kind of freedom for herself, too.”

This season also finds Hornsby stepping behind the camera again, directing Episode 402.

“Younger actors are selfish. It’s all ‘my line, my line, my scene,’” Hornsby said. “But as you grow, you want to help tell the whole story. That’s what directing has become for me — stepping outside of myself and thinking about the bigger picture.”

When asked to describe the emotional state of Charles and Lucille in Season 4, the answers for the characters are on two different trajectories.

“Broken,” Hornsby said simply.  White paused, then added: “Giving herself permission to be imperfect.”

Season 4 of BMF premieres Friday, June 6 on STARZ and is available on the STARZ app.
