*Mondelēz Global LLC has launched a voluntary recall of certain Ritz Cracker Sandwich products due to a labeling error that poses a risk to people with peanut allergies, as reported by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).
The problem stems from individually wrapped Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches that were incorrectly packaged with labels indicating the cheese variety. While the outer boxes accurately note the presence of peanuts, the mislabeling on the inner packaging could mislead consumers with allergies.
The FDA warning highlighted, “People who have an allergy or severe sensitivity to peanuts may risk serious or life-threatening allergic reactions by consuming this product.”
This recall targets four specific products: eight-count, 20-count, and 40-count cartons of Ritz Peanut Butter Cracker Sandwiches, plus the 20-pack Ritz Filled Cracker Sandwich Variety Pack, all distributed across the country at various stores. Only items with specific “Best When Used By” dates and plant codes, detailed in the FDA’s online chart, are affected; other Ritz products, including cheese-only versions or those with different codes, remain unaffected.

As of July 9, there have been no reports of illnesses or allergic reactions. Mondelēz described the move as a precautionary measure. Corrective actions are being taken to prevent this issue from recurring.
According to the release, the labeling error originated from a supplier’s defective film roll used during packaging. “Corrective actions are being taken to help ensure this issue does not recur,” the company stated.
Consumers with peanut allergies are advised not to eat the affected items and to discard them immediately. Additional support is available at 1-844-366-1171. The hotline operates 24 hours a day, and Consumer Relations specialists are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
