Rihanna’s ‘Friend of Mine’ Music Video Drops Ahead of ‘Smurfs’ Movie Release | Watch

*Pop icon and beauty mogul Rihanna has unveiled the official video for “Friend Of Mine,” the second single from Paramount Animation’s upcoming “Smurfs” movie soundtrack. The feel‑good anthem arrives via Roc Nation Distribution and sets the tone for the blue crew’s return to cinemas this summer, with RiRi voicing the fearless Smurfette.

“Friend Of Mine” follows March’s high‑energy lead single “Higher Love” by Desi Trill featuring DJ Khaled, Cardi B, Natania, and Subhi. Still to come is a brand‑new track from South African breakout star Tyla, rounding out a soundtrack that Roc Nation is positioning as one of this summer’s marquee releases. Fans can pre‑order or pre‑save the full album now, ahead of its official drop on June 13.

Speaking at a previous CinemaCon event, Rihanna opened up about her experience in the recording booth: “Getting to do animation is a fun journey for me. I’m usually front and center with everything with my likeness…but this was fun, I got to imagine, I got to show up in my pajamas in my third trimester, and be a blue badass,” she laughed. “I hope this gives me a little bit of cool points with my kids one day.”

What we know about Smurfs so far

When Papa Smurf (John Goodman) is kidnapped by wicked wizards Razamel and Gargamel, it’s up to Smurfette to lead the rescue mission—straight into the human world. Joining Rihanna in the voice cast is a veritable who’s‑who of comedy, music, and drama: James Corden, Nick Offerman, Daniel Levy, Amy Sedaris, Natasha Lyonne, Sandra Oh, Octavia Spencer, Nick Kroll, Hannah Waddingham, Marshmello, Kurt Russell, and many more.

Behind the scenes, Chris Miller (of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs fame) directs from a script by Pam Brady. Rihanna serves as a producer alongside Jay Brown, Ty Ty Smith, and Ryan Harris.

“Smurfs” opens in theaters nationwide on July 18.
