And Just Like That begins its post-Che era this summer.
On April 15, Max shared its first trailer for the new batch of episodes, which will check in on the status of Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker) and Aidan (John Corbett) while introducing a whole slew of new characters to its bubbly and spontaneous vision of New York City.
As executive producer Michael Patrick King teased to Entertainment Weekly in January, this season is all about newness: new apartments, new characters, and new romances.
Ahead of the series’ return, get a handle on all that newness with everything we know about And Just Like That season 3.

Craig Blankenhorn/Max
There is! In April, Max confirmed that And Just Like That season 3 will premiere on May 29.
How many episodes will there be in And Just Like That season 3?
Craig Blankenhorn/Max

Is there an And Just Like That season 3 trailer?
The season’s first trailer dropped on April 15, offering a look at the uncertain state of Carrie and Aidan’s relationship following that season 2 finale shocker — not to mention our first glimpses at the season’s litany of new guest stars.
What is And Just Like That season 3 about?
Craig Blankenhorn/Max
Unsurprisingly, King confirmed to EW that Carrie and Aidan’s relationship will be “a big plot point” in season 3.
“I have no interest in torturing an audience too much,” said the executive producer. “The Carrie-Aidan relationship is dramatic and exciting because it contains two points of view. I think half the fans who do not want Carrie to be in a relationship will be like, ‘Enough!’ The other half will understand that when you love somebody, what comes with them is their family.”
He continued, “It’s an interesting thing when you have Carrie Bradshaw in love figuring out how to make this work when, at a certain age, everyone has a past. There are a couple of booby traps in the Carrie-Aidan history that we’re very aware of, as well.”
But that’s not all Carrie is up to. As the trailer teases, she’ll face temptations of her own in Aidan’s absence. Also, she’s at work on her first fiction project, a “romantasy” novel that may or may not be called Sex and the Cauldron, which… yikes.
King teased a few other storylines to EW, including several “new loves” and “new obstacles for old loves.” He added, “Dating at 50 is an interesting thing. We have married characters, we have single characters, we have characters trying to work their current relationships out. It is kind of a maze of how you move through the world at this point in your life.”
In fact, “new” is the word that King used when describing the season as a whole. That may sound like a cop-out, but the word has a deeper resonance on a show about women over 50.
“It’s a lot of ‘new’ within the familiar, but even the familiar characters are going through new things,” King said. “It’s more than Carrie that has a new apartment. Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) has a new apartment. We feel that there’s a lot of newness in the world right now, especially for these characters. We wanted to tell new stories and put them through new obstacles.”
Will Carrie’s voiceover return?
Craig Blankenhorn/Max
Carrie’s voiceover narration is one of Sex and the City‘s most iconic (and memeable) touches, but it’s only been used sparingly on And Just Like That. That will change in season 3, in part due to her work on her novel.
“Carrie’s actually writing a new book and the voiceover is the way into the book,” King told EW. “When we did voiceover on Sex in the City, Carrie had this overview of everything. She was telling you what to think and what to feel. For the first two seasons of And Just Like That, I took the voiceover away because I didn’t think she knew what she was feeling.”
He added, “She’s starting to feel things again and have an overview of where she is in the world. Writing a book is very private, and so, in an interesting way, it’s almost a direct, intimate conversation with the viewer. Maybe there are things she’s saying to the viewer that she wouldn’t say to even her best friends.”
Which And Just Like That cast members are returning for season 3?
Craig Blankenhorn/Max
Parker, Nixon, and Kristin Davis will return as Carrie, Miranda, and Charlotte, but they’re joined by two women who King feels are also central to the series: Sarita Choudhury’s Seema and Nicole Ari Parker’s Lisa.
“There are five women right now on the show, and each of them has a world,” King said. “Some of them have husbands, some of them have children, some of those children even have relationships. So it just gets bigger and bigger and bigger.”
You can also expect to see series regulars such as Evan Handler, who plays Charlotte’s husband Harry, and David Eigenberg, the father of Miranda’s baby. And, of course, the frustrating Aidan — John Corbett is all over the season’s first trailer. In an interesting bit of casting, season 3 will also see the return of Rosemarie DeWitt, who appeared in a single season 2 appearance as Kathy, Aidan’s ex. Things may get messy.
Craig Blankenhorn/Max
Mario Cantone’s Anthony will also be a key figure this season, while Sebastiano Pigazzi, who plays his boyfriend, Giuseppe, was promoted to a series regular for season 3. The same is also true of Dolly Wells, the actress behind BBC producer Joy, who we last saw sharing a drink with Miranda in the season 2 finale.
Who’s not returning for season 3?
Craig Blakenhorn/Max
Let’s get something clear straightaway: Despite that brief season 2 cameo, Kim Cattrall debunked the rumors that Samantha would return for season 3.
But she’s not the only character whose absence will be felt in season 3. King confirmed that Che Diaz (Sara Ramírez) will not return after splitting with Miranda in season 2.
“They were so thrilling and so important, and then it just didn’t work out,” King said of Miranda and Che’s relationship. “Just like with all the great loves that have been on this show, when an evolution comes, you’re like, that character needs to go on. Carrie’s had a Berger, she’s had a Petrovsky. Miranda’s had a Skipper, and now she’s had a Che. And it was time for that character to move on.”
Nixon, too, feels as if her arc with Che has run its course. “I think for Miranda, Miranda and Che were really pretty done,” she told EW. “I think that Miranda and Che had kind of run the gamut of what they were going to be to each other.”
Karen Pittman’s Nya Wallace is another character we won’t see in season 3, as the actress is busy on Apple’s The Morning Show and Netflix’s Forever.
“We just moved forward because that’s what happens in New York City or in life,” King said. “Sometimes you see someone who is so important to you and then you don’t see them again for 10 years.”
King, however, is open to both characters returning down the road. “They’re still on the same island, but you don’t see them,” he said. “So we put Che and Nya on a very luxurious boat and waved goodbye, throwing confetti as they departed from the shores of And Just Like That. And we moved forward with bringing in new boats, new characters, new ideas.”
Are any new cast members joining And Just Like That season 3?

There are a lot of new cast members, actually, including some surprising names.
Last March, Emmy winner and former The View moderator Rosie O’Donnell took to Instagram to confirm she’d been cast in And Just Like That season 3 as a character named Mary.
Another big get for the series? Broadway icon Patti LuPone. While we don’t know much about the role the Agatha All Along star will play, King confirmed it’s no mere cameo, saying she’ll have “an arc on our show this season.”

Other new additions to the season include Mehcad Brooks, Carrie’s flirtatious next-door neighbor. Also of note is Jonathan Cake (Desperate Housewives), who we learned from the trailer will intersect with Parker’s Lisa. O.C. alum Logan Marshall-Green, meanwhile, will play a potential paramour for Choudhury’s Seema.
Other new additions include a pair of reliably funny ladies: Cheri Oteri (Saturday Night Live) and Kristen Schaal (Bob’s Burgers).
