When it comes to athletics and action, few brands are as inextricable as Red Bull and extreme sports. The energy drink brand has made a name for itself organising and sponsoring events ranging from the bizarre Red Bull Flugtag to X-Alps, BMX and even its own F1 team. It’s little surprise, then, that their newest mobile effort, Red Bull Playgrounds, is all about that too!
Red Bull Playgrounds is essentially a Trials-like, where you choose to take on a variety of levels using either BMX, skateboard or parkour. With cel-shaded graphics, it may not quite be Unreal Engine, but the physics-based fun will undoubtedly lead to both some hilarious (and awesome) stunts and falls.
Better yet, you’ll be able to build your own levels using a straightforward but comprehensive editor. Not only that, but you’ll be able to select and make use of skills pioneered by real-life athletes.
Parkour!
Red Bull Playgrounds initially looks like a fairly simple, if innovative, effort. But the physics-based fun hides a discreet degree of brand tie-in here. For example, the fact that you can snazz up your player character with all manner of official gear from the likes of Mongoose, BSD and TSG, the kind of which real-life extreme athletes wear.
Even if you’re a die-hard Red Bull fan then you’re still going to have reasons to jump in and give this a go. What with real-life athletes Garrett Reynolds, Dominic Di Tommaso and Margie Didal showing up as in-game mentors alongside their existing iconic movesets.
And if you get a taste for the athletic from playing Red Bull Playgrounds, you’re in luck! Be sure to check out our list of the top 25 best sports games on iOS and Android to discover everything from arcade action to full-on granular simulation for athletics fans to enjoy.
