R. Kelly’s Legal Team Appeals to Trump for Release, Alleges Federal Plot to Kill Him

*R. Kelly’s legal team is urging former President Donald Trump to intervene in the singer’s federal incarceration, claiming a conspiracy by government officials aimed at endangering Kelly’s life.
According to CBS, in a Tuesday court filing in Chicago, attorneys for Kelly requested emergency action, alleging authorities have engaged in a calculated effort to sabotage his legal defense and expose him to physical harm while behind bars. Attorney Beau Brindley announced the motion during a press conference, accusing federal officials of corruption and misconduct.
“R. Kelly’s life is now threatened, because of his willingness to fight and to expose the very kind of corruption that President Trump has been fighting and standing up to since the day he took that office,” Brindley said. “We will ask President Trump to help us.”
Brindley added: “We are seeking a conversation with the president, because R. Kelly does not have the time, with his life in danger, to go through the normal channels,” he explained. “We are seeking talks with the White House. We are seeking talks with everybody who is willing to help us.”
The emergency motion alleges that prison officials at Chicago’s federal facility collaborated with Kelly’s then-cellmate to intercept and share confidential legal correspondence with prosecutors. The goal, according to the filing, was to influence testimony from one of Kelly’s former girlfriends.

In a separate incident detailed in the motion, Kelly allegedly received a phone call from a Bureau of Prisons official warning him not to eat in the mess hall due to fears his food could be poisoned.
The filing further claims that a member of the Aryan Brotherhood, housed in the same North Carolina facility where Kelly is currently serving his sentence, was approached by federal officials with a request to kill Kelly. According to the defense team, officials promised the inmate assistance in escaping prison, a feat he had previously accomplished, if he carried out the hit. Instead, the inmate reportedly informed Kelly and his attorneys of the plan.
Kelly was convicted in 2022 in a Chicago federal court for child pornography after being accused of filming sexual abuse of three minors, including his 14-year-old goddaughter. He is currently serving a 30-year sentence from the New York case and an overlapping 20-year term from the Chicago case.
The R&B crooner is imprisoned at the Federal Correctional Institution in Butner, North Carolina. His scheduled release date is December 21, 2045.
