As we head into the middle of the year, those of you craving some esports action will more than likely be looking forward to the Esports World Cup. This major event in Saudi Arabia has big money and bigger names backing it. Now, the upcoming PUBG Mobile World Cup has unveiled the Group Draw results, setting the stage for the competition proper, which begins July 25th.
For those not in the know, the Group Draw is where each team competing is assigned to one of three sections. These sections then compete in the Group Stage, which will thin the herd, with those losing out getting one last chance to snag a spot in the Grand Finals (1st August) via the Survival Stage (29th July).
The currently assigned groups are, in order:
Group Red: Team Falcons, Horaa Esports, eArena, POWR Esports, Alpha7 Esports, Nongshim RedForce, Weibo Gaming and Aryan & TMG Gaming.
Group Yellow: Fire Flux Esports, Regnum Carya Esports, 4Thrives Esports, Team Secret, Team Vision, Influence Rage, DRX and Yangon Galacticos.
Group Green: IDA Esports, Alpha Gaming, Alter Ego Ares, Garamax Esports, Intense Game, Kinotrope Gaming, TT Global and R8 Esports.
Champions of the World
The Group Draw is an important part of any organised esports competition. And these placements may mean that we’ll have either some interesting pairings or some teams have a clear road to success, depending on where you feel they fall skill-wise.
As for the process itself, I think that many will be watching the EWC this year closely to see how it measures up. The big money behind this competition doesn’t necessarily translate to success, so some interesting matches and competition will be key.
