*The critically acclaimed comedy “Platonic” returns for its second season on Apple TV+ starting August 6, with Seth Rogen and Rose Byrne reprising their roles as best friends Will and Sylvia.

The 10-episode season kicks off with two episodes, followed by weekly releases until October 1. Co-created by Nicholas Stoller and Francesca Delbanco, the show dives deeper into the duo’s chaotic friendship amid midlife challenges. As executive producers, Rogen and Byrne shaped the season’s direction, from casting to story arcs.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s really, for me, having more say at the table in terms of casting, or script development, or arc, and stuff like that,” Byrne said, highlighting her role in bringing in guest stars like Aidy Bryant, Beck Bennett, Kyle Mooney, and Bobby Cannavale. Rogen, focusing on big-picture decisions, noted, “My producerial role on this is much less involved than on a day-to-day basis,” crediting Stoller and Delbanco’s strong vision.

Season two pushes Will and Sylvia into new territory. Rogen’s character hits “a very relatable kind of rock bottom,” living in Sylvia’s garage after his life unravels. Byrne’s Sylvia grapples with her husband Charlie’s midlife crisis, as he quits his job and dons a fedora.

“There’s nothing about this that I am enjoying or want to happen,” Byrne said, capturing Sylvia’s frustration over their family’s financial strain. The season’s tagline, “sometimes rocks break things,” hints at tensions in Will and Sylvia’s bond.

“When do you be honest, and when do you not be honest?” Rogen mused, reflecting on the struggle to balance truth and support. Their friendship faces cracks as they navigate poor choices and personal turmoil, yet the show maintains a “light touch” with relatable stories, as Byrne noted.

With a stellar cast, including Luke Macfarlane and Carla Gallo, and sharp writing, “Platonic” season two promises humor and heart. Fans can stream the first season now on Apple TV+ to catch up before the premiere.
