Patina Miller on Raq’s Blind Spot, Her Relationship with Kanan & Season 4’s High-Stakes Power Plays | EURexclusiveWATCH

*Patina Miller has embodied “Raq Thomas” with a mix of ruthless ambition and raw vulnerability throughout “Power Book III: Raising Kanan,” but season four presents her with a new set of challenges—ones she may not see coming.

In an exclusive conversation with EUR, Miller discussed Raq’s biggest blind spot this season, how her dynamic with Kanan continues to evolve, and whether Stefano (Tony Danza) is an ally or just another power player in the game.

“Her blind spot really is just the big thing of the season—thinking everything is set and focusing on building her business back up again,” Miller explained. “Why would she ever think that Unique (Joey BadA$$) is still alive, right? And what that might represent for her?”

Unique’s return changes everything, but while Raq is focused on restructuring her empire, she may not realize just how much of a threat he still poses. This season, she’s navigating a different world,” Miller continued. “Everybody in the family is doing their own thing, and she’s alone. She has to focus on what she wants, and the only blind spot right now is the idea that Unique is alive—and what that will mean for her.”

The mother-son dynamic between Raq and Kanan has been at the center of “Raising Kanan” from the start, shifting from maternal protection to cold-blooded business. But as Kanan begins to operate more independently, can Raq ever truly let go?

“For Raq, Kanan is still young—he doesn’t know the business the way she does,” Miller said. “Him being her business partner is just another way for her to stay connected to him. She knows they can never have the mother-son relationship they had before, but she needs him in her life in some way.”

Rather than trying to control him, Raq sees this as a way to guide him without pushing him away. “At this point, she’s not picky about how it presents itself. She can’t make him stay home anymore—he’s a man now. He’s had to grow up really fast, and she just wants to make sure he’s smart and has the necessary tools.”

But Kanan isn’t Raq. He’s still learning, and Miller emphasized that their differences could be costly. “Raq is really good at what she does. Kanan is not yet. He’s working off emotion, and she’s trying to set him up for success,” she said. “But family doesn’t ever listen, right? You can be right in the room with them, but they’ll still learn it the hard way.”

With major shake-ups in season four, alliances will be tested, and power will shift. One of the more intriguing dynamics is between Raq and Stefano, the powerful mob boss.

“I don’t think Raq has many friends,” Miller admitted. “And using that word—‘friend’—is a big thing for her. He’s definitely not a foe, but she’s not stupid either.”

Their relationship may be strategic, but in Raq’s world, trust is always conditional. “She knows where she needs to be with all of the people in her life,” Miller said. “Her and Stefano are friendly, but she knows she can’t trust anyone.”
