Outrage! Assaulted Black Female Student Labeled ‘Bully’ & Faces Felony Charges – Larger Male Attacker Gets Misdemeanor | Presser Scheduled

*A coalition of faith, civil rights leaders, and parents demand justice for the African American female student at  Jehue Middle School in Colton, CA. [Because of her age (14) she is not being named publicly]. A press conference is scheduled for 11am on Wednesday, March 19. More details are below.

Viral video shows the girl was viciously assaulted and knocked unconscious in class by her male Latino classmate, who stood over her laughing as his classmates yelled out racial slurs and the N-word against her.

Since our initial report, we’ve learned that the Colton police department has recommended felony charges be filed against the female student to the San Bernardino District Attorney’s office.

Colton Police have described the girl as the bully and the boy as the victim. She has been charged with attacking him with a metal bottle. Both have been charged – although she’s been accused of felony assault, while he’s facing a misdemeanor battery charge. However, local community activists have claimed the incident was an example of anti-black racism and have called the boy, also 14, an aggressor while demanding he be expelled.

The two students had no history of issues before the fight, according to Colton police Sgt. Mike Sandoval, who said the brawl was not racially motivated. Both students were freed after being charged and are due back in court at a later date.

“Our coalition of concerned activists calls for all charges to be dismissed by law enforcement against this child. She was knocked unconscious by a Latino classmate, said LA-based activist Najee Ali.  “She’s the actual victim. She had every right to defend herself from a male classmate who was much taller and heavier.  The video of her assault clearly shows she’s fighting for her life.”

Ali, Senior organizer of Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches, goes on to say the Colton police department should be embarrassed and ashamed of themselves.

“The video of her assault has gone viral.  The Colton police department wants the District Attorney’s office to charge the victim with a felony.  This is a continuation of racist implicit bias against African American children by law enforcement and we are going to show the entire nation their hypocrisy and how backward the Colton police department is.

Ali added: “We believe that Colton Police Chief Anthony Vega deserves better police work from his officers.  We know the community deserves better.”

Pastor Samuel J. Casey, M.A. Executive Director of C.O.P.E and Senior Pastor of New Life Christian Church has been at the forefront in addressing hate, racism, and intolerance, is calling for the charges against the 14-year-0ld female to be dropped.

“We call upon San Bernardino County Chief of Probation Tracy Reece and District Attorney Jason Anderson to take a stand for justice and reject the unjust charges placed against the young Black Female scholar at Jehue Middle School in the Rialto Unified School District. This case highlights a systemic failure in our educational and judicial systems, as the protocols established through Positive Behavior Intervention Supports (PBIS) were not fully adhered to.

“It is imperative that we prioritize the well-being and future of our students over punitive measures that only perpetuate cycles of injustice. We urge our leaders to uphold the principles of equity and support for our youth by dismissing these charges and ensuring that all students receive the fair treatment they deserve.”
