Happee birthdae, Harry Potter fans: HBO released another first look at the upcoming Harry Potter series, this time of Nick Frost as gentle giant and Hogwarts gamekeeper Rubeus Hagrid.
The Shaun of the Dead actor, 53, was photographed in Hagrid’s signature cloak and billowing hair and beard as production officially commences at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden in England.
The late Robbie Coltrane previously portrayed the beloved Hogwarts half-giant in the blockbuster movie franchise based on J.K. Rowling’s hit novels of the same name.

HBO on Monday conjured up a first look image of Scottish newcomer Dominic McLaughlin as the Boy Who Lived, donned in the official Hogwarts school uniform and the young wizard’s round-framed glasses and all.
Both Frost and McLaughlin will be joined by Arabella Stanton (as this generation’s Hermione Granger) and Alastair Stout (as Ronald Weasley) in the series, which has been billed as a faithful adaptation of the book series with an eyed premiere date of sometime in 2027.

Recent cast additions include Rory Wilmot as fellow Hogwarts pupil Neville Longbottom and Amos Kitson as Harry’s Muggle cousin Dudley Dursley. Other notable cast members include John Lithgow as Hogwarts headmaster Albus Dumbledore; Paapa Essiedu as enigmatic potions professor Severus Snape; and Lox Pratt as Hogwarts bully Draco Malfoy.
The series hails from Succession alums Francesca Gardiner, who will showrun and executive produce, and Mark Mylod, who will also executive produce and direct the episodes. Rowling, who has come under fire in recent years for spewing transphobic views, is also attached as an executive producer. She revealed last month that she worked closely with the writers on the show, praising the first two episodes as “so, so, so good.”
The new golden trio of McLaughlin, Stanton, and Stout succeed Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint, the latter of whom catapulted to global fame as young children following their casting in the movie franchise. The eight-film adaptation grossed over $7 billion globally and yielded the prequel franchise Fantastic Beasts.
