This article contains spoilers for Survivor 48 episode 8, “A Rift Between All of Us.”
Chrissy Sarnowsky just couldn’t help herself on Survivor 48.
In the last two Tribal Councils, the 55-year-old fire lieutenant kept talking her self-described “Survivor smack talk” against the “strong” alliance that had formed between all the big challenge threats. And while this week’s vote originally seemed to be targeting Kamilla Karthigesu (driven by David Kinne, much to Kyle Fraser’s frustration), Chrissy talked herself into getting her own torch snuffed instead.

She even realized it before Jeff Probst read the votes.
“Ugh, what did I do out there?” she said when she got into the voting booth. “Okay, I think I screwed myself in this vote by opening up my mouth.”
And she was right, as the vote was unanimous against her, thanks to her openly targeting Joe Hunter, both in private conversations and during Tribal.
But at least she tried to save herself another way — even if it wasn’t shown on TV. Entertainment Weekly has an exclusive deleted scene from this week’s episode showing that when all the other cast members were away either enjoying the taco reward or risking their vote on a journey, Chrissy and Kyle teamed up for a sneaky idol hunt together.
The scene, which can be watched above, begins with Kyle and Chrissy getting back to the tribe beach on their own — as the only pair who made it through the first part of the immunity challenge but not the last part, they were the only players safe from risking their vote on the journey but did not get to gorge themselves on tacos.
As soon as they got back, Kyle was ready to hit the ground running — literally — to look for a hidden idol. Chrissy didn’t think there were any to find because of Eva Erickson’s very public idol, but Kyle explained that was from her original tribe beach. Since he played an idol earlier in the game, he knew it was possible that another was planted in the game. Plus, it’s Survivor! If you’re not trying, you’re not winning. And the only time to safely search for an idol is when everyone else is gone for hours.

With that solid argument, Chrissy agreed to join him. They went off into the jungle and “gridded” it out, looking together but also going off on their own to cover more ground. Kyle knew he didn’t find anything, and he believed Chrissy didn’t either, despite their “valiant” efforts.
And while it didn’t work out for Chrissy, it’s good that she at least tried to look rather than just sit at camp, believing there wasn’t an idol to find. Hopefully that gave her some solace as she headed to Ponderosa later that night.
