According to the news release, this year’s lineup combines cutting-edge science, breathtaking cinematography, and gripping storytelling to shed light on these often-misunderstood ocean predators. Leading the charge is the premiere of “Sharks Up Close With Bertie Gregory,” airing at 8/7c on National Geographic, followed by a diverse slate of specials and series across Nat Geo WILD, Nat Geo Mundo, Disney Jr., DisneyXD, and a 24/7 YouTube live stream of 2024 content. Select programs will be available to stream on Disney+ and Hulu starting July 6.

“Sharks Up Close With Bertie Gregory” follows Emmy- and BAFTA-winning National Geographic Explorer Bertie Gregory as he embarks on a daring mission off South Africa’s coast. The special sets the tone for SHARKFEST’s focus on blending adventure with conservation.

Another highlight is “Jaws @ 50: The Definitive Inside Story,” premiering July 10 at 9/8c on National Geographic. This authorized documentary marks the 50th anniversary of Steven Spielberg’s iconic film, featuring exclusive interviews with the director, rare archival footage, and insights from Hollywood filmmakers, Peter Benchley’s family, shark scientists, and conservationists. The special traces “Jaws’” journey from novel to cultural phenomenon, exploring its role in sparking both fear and fascination with sharks while inspiring conservation efforts.
