Mobile Legends: Bang Bang brings new format to Esports World cup 2025 entry

- Mobile Legends: Bang Bang is revamping its Mid Season Cup format
- The new format will debut at the Esports World Cup 2025
- Expect the unexpected in the form of new matchups and a third-place match
The Esports World Cup in Riyadh is a tournament that’s had a lot of money put into it, and a corresponding amount of interest from major developers and publishers. Not least is that of Moonton and their hit MOBA Mobile Legends: Bang Bang, which today unveiled a revamped format for its 2025 Mid Season Cup, which promises big money but even bigger challenges.
The new format will see the addition of a third-place match for those running at the back of the pack, while a new draw system will aim to provide unpredictable matchups that will pit a more varied number of players against one another. Fans will be able to see it in action during the Mid Season Cup, running from July 30th to August 2nd.
The refreshed format could be indicative of many things. For one, the Esports World Cup has attracted big names, but for many reasons, either mid season or off-season competitions are held to avoid interfering with existing schedules, so drawing in new viewers requires bigger and better competitions.
Thinking tactically
There’s also the fact that, according to the folks at Moonton, they want to create a dynamic playing field. In the world of esports, especially on mobile, there’s a huge amount of competition, and while MLBB may be leading the pack at the minute, there’s no better time to plan for the future than right now.
All of this being said, the Esports World Cup itself is shaping up to be a major tournament that promises huge prizes (MLBB itself has a pool of $3 million) and corresponding expectations.
