Moshi Monsters could make a return as new Kickstarter campaign launches from Mind Candy

- Moshi Monsters is coming back! Well, sort of.
- A new Kickstarter from Mind Candy could see the classic MMORPG make a return
- This new mobile release is pitched as more story-driven, but with many classic features
Few names evoke nostalgia in the British gaming public than Moshi Monsters. Time was that these adorable if freaky beasties were festooned across television adverts, magazines and, of course, the nearest computer. Now, it seems as if the Moshi Monsters could make a return, courtesy of original developer Mind Candy.
A new Kickstarter from the developer has just launched that promises to bring the hit Flash MMORPG into a new era, and more importantly, onto mobile. As their pitch goes, this new mobile entry will see players return to Monstro City after it was destroyed by a mysterious asteroid strike and seek to restore their home.
You’d play as one of the six original Moshi Monsters, adopting and nurturing your own virtual pet just like the original. Meanwhile, you’d experience a new story-driven adventure packed with minigames and highlights from the original MMORPG, all while rebuilding the iconic Monstro City.
Monstrous!
I often say that the world of mobile gaming owes a great deal to Flash. The accessibility of sites such as Newgrounds, Miniclip and Armour Games kicked off many younger players’ interest in gaming, and both genres and gameplay mechanics first pioneered in the world of Flash have become standard practice on mobile.
With that being said, Moshi Monsters may prove to be a litmus test for whether or not the nostalgia factor can resurrect one of these long-retired releases, as iconic as they may be. If you fancy your chances in helping Mind Candy bring Moshi Monsters back, you can check out their Kickstarter for more info before it’s set to wrap on August 15th.
