Michael Jackson’s Daughter Challenges Estate Executors Over $625K Legal Fees, Citing Mismanagement

*Paris Jackson, daughter of the late Michael Jackson, has lodged a formal complaint against the estate’s executors, alleging financial mismanagement.
In a recent court filing obtained by Us Magazine, Paris, 27, contests a $625,000 legal fee request from executors John Branca and John McClain for 2018 work. Her lawyer highlights concerns over “so-called ‘premium payments’ for unrecorded attorney time,” questioning the lack of justification.
“During this one six-month period alone in 2018, Executors request that the Court approve $625,000 in payments to three law firms for what they say is uncaptured time, without explanation as to why counsel was incapable of recording unbilled time, or why such a failure should not preclude payment,” the filing states. It further labels the fees as “lavish gratuities bestowed upon already well-compensated counsel,” raising doubts about oversight.
The document criticizes the executors’ delays in addressing court inquiries and their inability to propose solutions. “Despite repeated inquiries from the Court, Executors are unable to provide even remotely satisfactory explanation for their delay,” it notes, fueling Paris’s push for the court to reject the fee request.
Paris is asking the court to reject the full $625,000 legal fee request until the attorneys’ invoices are reviewed in a hearing. In the filing, the model said she found “several inconsistencies that demand close scrutiny of all fees and costs sought in the petition.” Paris also urged the estate to present a strategy for expediting future fee approvals.

Paris remains one of three beneficiaries with brothers Prince and Bigi, while her grandmother Katherine continues to receive support under the will established after Michael’s 2009 passing.
Meanwhile, we reported earlier that Antoine Fuqua’s Michael Jackson biopic “Michael” wrapped filming in May 2024, with a nearly four-hour version that might be split into two films. Its release was delayed from April 18, 2025, to October 3, 2025. However, legal trouble arose when it was discovered that the script violated a 1993 settlement agreement that prohibited depicting the Chandler family, central to Jackson’s child abuse allegations.
This oversight forced urgent rewrites and reshoots. Despite reports of production turmoil, insiders claim the film remains on track. Starring Jaafar Jackson as Michael, the film explores the singer’s life, struggles, and iconic performances.
