Michael J. Fox Sets Acting Return In Shrinking Season 3

When documentarian Davis Guggenheim released Still: A Michael J. Fox Movie on Apple TV+ last year, we were reminded of two things. First, that the Back To The Future star remains one of Hollywood’s all-time greats; and second, well, that we just really miss seeing that man lighting up our screens. Happily then, today we’ve learned via Deadline that five years after making his last acting appearance in The Good Fight, Fox is set to take on a major guest role in Bill Lawrence’s upcoming Shrinking Season 3.
Having led Lawrence’s first creator credited series Spin City back in the late 90s, Fox entering the Shrinking fray represents a poignant reunion for both showrunner and star. And, if Deadline‘s understanding is accurate, then Fox’s involvement in the show — which, in case you didn’t already know, follows grieving psychotherapist Jimmy Laird (Jason Segel) and his pals as they navigate their lives’ trials and tribulations — will be loaded with significance, too. Apparently Fox’s character will intersect with the character arc of Harrison Ford’s Paul Rhoades, whose journey with Parkinson’s — the condition Fox has been living with for over three decades — played a pivotal role in the show’s second season and looks set to be an even bigger part of the third.
Also set to join Fox in Shrinking Season 3 are Jeff Daniels, who has come aboard to guest star as Jimmy’s father, Nobody Wants This‘ Sherry Cola, and One Day At A Time actor Isabella Gomez. As for where the show and its characters’ story will head when Shrinking returns, your guess is very much as good as ours. But given the richness of the characters we already know and love, the calibre of stars joining for this next run of episodes, and the tantalising prospect of watching Michael J. Fox and Harrison Ford share the screen with one another, we have every faith that Bill Lawrence, Jason Segel, and series co-creator — and now star — Brett Goldstein will deliver another edifying dose of televisual therapy. Consider us booked in already.
