Michael B. Jordan-produced ‘Creed’ spinoff series ‘Delphi’ lands at Amazon Prime Video

Michael B. Jordan is expanding the Creed universe with a live-action TV series. On Monday, Amazon Prime Video announced it ordered the first live-action series extension focused on young boxers who train at the Delphi gym featured in both the Rocky and Creed film franchises.

Aptly named Delphi, the series is executive produced by Jordan and Liz Raposo via their Outlier Society production company, alongside Winkler Films’ Irwin Winkler, David Winkler, and Charles Winkler.

The Delphi Boxing Academy is a landmark feature in the Rocky franchise. The Los Angeles-based boxing gym was founded by Tony “Duke” Evers and is introduced as the gym where Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers), who appears in the first four Rocky films, trained for many years.

The gym makes its most prominent return in the universe’s seventh installment, the beginning of the Creed franchise. It’s now run by Evers’ son, Tony “Little Duke” Evers (Wood Harris), and a training hub for Apollo Creed’s son, Adonis “Donnie” Creed (born Adonis Johnson) played by Jordan. By Creed III, Donnie runs Delphi Boxing Academy alongside Little Duke.

Across three films, released in 2015, 2018, and 2023, the Creed franchise has grossed more than $660 million at the global box office. A fourth big-screen installment is currently in development, but no additional information has been announced.

While few other details on the series have been released, Marco Ramirez was announced as showrunner and executive producer.

The series announcement was made as part of Amazon’s Upfront presentation in New York on Monday night at the Beacon Theater. According to Deadline, Jordan was present to introduce Delphi, which he told attendees “takes us back to where it all began.”

“What I love about this story is that it stays true to what the Rocky and Creed franchise is all about: hard work, determination, fighting for something bigger than yourself,” Jordan continued. “It’s about family, the ones we’re born into and the ones that we created. We’re building something special here, and I’m excited to introduce you to new fighters that will walk into the Delphi. As always, in Creed, we say, one step, one round, one punch at a time.”

Delphi will premiere exclusively on Prime Video in more than 240 countries and territories worldwide.

The series order is another win for Jordan, whose latest box office entry Sinners has been breaking records.

Sinners reunites director Ryan Coogler and star Jordan for their fifth film together, following Fruitvale Station, Creed, Black Panther, and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. In a dual performance, Jordan stars in Sinners as twins Smoke and Stack, WWI vets who return to their Mississippi Delta hometown to start again, only to find it infested with vampires.

Per The Wrap, since its April 18 release, Sinners has an estimated domestic total of $216 million in the U.S. and Canada after four weekends in theaters — a box office milestone that no original film has achieved in eight years.

The film’s popularity has not escaped the attention of Coogler, who penned a thank-you note to fans after the movie topped the box office during its opening weekend.

The filmmaker wrote that the movie owed its success to the fans “who decided to drive to see the film in different formats. Who bought popcorn and a drink, booked a sitter and carpooled, and stood in the lobby afterwards and talked and made a friend. Who changed their work schedules. Who saw the film in groups… Who watched more than once, who recommended the film to others, both in person and on social media or on your text message chains.”

“We don’t get to do what we do if you don’t show up,” he concluded.
