Mia, Liv Tyler recall first meeting at Aerosmith concert before they knew they were sisters

  • Mia and Liv Tyler recalled meeting for the first time at an Aerosmith concert.
  • Liv said she got emotional over the news that she had a sister she never knew about.
  • The actress compared the meeting to “looking in the mirror and seeing your double.”

Steven Tyler’s daughters Mia and Liv Tyler have recalled how they first met, of all places, at an Aerosmith concert (go figure) before they knew they were sisters.

The siblings, who are 18 months apart and share a father (but different mothers) in the rock legend, appeared on a recent episode of the Sibling Revelry With Kate Hudson and Oliver Hudson podcast, where they recalled finding out they were related for the first time.

While Liv grew up with her mother, Bebe Buell, in Maine, and Cyrinda Foxe raised Mia in New Hampshire, the half-sisters met at ages eight and nine when their moms took them to the same Aerosmith concert.

Liv recalled watching rock band Guns ‘n Roses opening for Aerosmith at the outdoor venue, when she noticed Mia standing nearby.

“I just remember standing there watching them play, looking, and seeing this girl who looked exactly like me. Like, we literally had the same outfit on,” the Lord of the Rings and Leftovers actress said, highlighting their spiral perms, braces, and similar concert tees paired with black leggings and Reebok sneakers.

“I was like, wait, that’s me,” Liv said, comparing it to “looking in the mirror and seeing your double.”

She said her mother, who’d told Liv for most of her life that rocker Todd Rundgren was her biological father, then started crying.

“I looked at my mom and I was like ‘Mom?’ And she just started crying. My mom just like, bawled. And I was like, ‘Is Steven my dad?'” Liv remembered, noting that her mother then took her to sit on a nearby bench and told her the “beautiful” and “sincere” story about raising her outside of her real father’s sobriety journey.

The sisters then said they went backstage and formally met for the first time, despite going years without knowing they were actually sisters.

“I remember getting home and it was really late, and I remember coming back and I was like, ‘I met this girl and she was so great, and her mom, Bebe…’ and [my mother] was like, ‘What was her name?'” Mia recounted, adding that Foxe eventually confirmed that Liv was Mia’s sister.

Mia, who forged a career as a television personality with appearances on Celebrity Fit Club, Pretty Wicked, and as an MTV VJ, also said that she remembered receiving postcards from Liv shortly thereafter, and their relationships strengthened in the years that followed.

Liv and Mia told their story on the podcast months after their father retired from touring in August 2024. The singer had mounted the band’s Peace Out: The Farewell Tour before sustaining a vocal injury that permanently damaged his singing voice, forcing the band to end the tour’s run early.
