Meghan Markle Told Drew Barrymore That Prince Harry Is “So Supportive” of Her Show and Business

To promote her new Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, Meghan Markle traveled to New York City this week, where she premiered the first episode with a group of longtime fans and filmed an episode of Drew Barrymore’s daytime talk show. During her sit-down with Barrymore, Meghan revealed that the trip took a lot of preparation because she made raspberry thumbprint shortbread cookies—with As Ever raspberry preserves—for the crew and audience, sharing some footage of her friends hard at work in her real kitchen.

“I made a lot for you on Sunday when I realized we were going to do this,” Meghan explained to Barrymore. “So a friend of mine, she and her daughter had just finished a camping trip. I said, ‘Can you come by?’ And my friend Clare Waight Keller, who designed my wedding dress, had come in from the UK to have lunch. I said, ‘Clare, can I put you to work too?’ So we all sat around, we made these cookies for you guys to enjoy.”

In her second daytime TV spot since leaving her role as a working royal—the first was a 2021 slapstick comedy appearance on friend Ellen DeGeneres’s show—the duchess was called “Meghan Sussex” for the first time, following her explanation on With Love, Meghan that it’s the name she prefers. Meghan also opened up about her relationship with Prince Harry after Barrymore noted that people tell her that the couple are “so hot for each other.” The host added, “Every time I see a photo of you, you’re holding hands, you’re kissing, you are so affectionate.” Drew also noted that she keeps a photo of the time in 1982 when she met Princess Diana, eventually showing it to Meghan.

“Life is full of surprises. I did not expect to meet H and for this to be our love story,” Meghan said, using the nickname for her husband she also uses throughout With Love, Meghan. “I’m very lucky. I am married to the funniest, sweetest, most charming man. I mean, he’s all the things that you’re describing and he’s an amazing father. So I count my blessings because I have him. Also I have a partner who is so supportive of me.”

Meghan also provided the backstory behind the note from Harry and their children Prince Archie and Prince Lilibet of Sussex that she shared to her Instagram account on Tuesday. “Last night, when I went back to my hotel, there was this sweet card from my kids and my husband saying, we’re so proud of you mama, and congrats on the show and with flowers,” she said. “I felt so loved that he had planned it in advance to make sure it was there when I got to my hotel room. It was really sweet.”

Like any good founder, she managed to pivot the conversation back to her new brand, As Ever, after discussing her feelings for Harry. “You find ways to show up for each other,” she said of Harry. “And if that’s the one thing that I can convey through the show or through As Ever as a brand—I want people to know you can show up for each other because you know how good it feels when someone shows up for you.”
