Meghan Markle Really Writes Like That

In the run up to the premiere of Meghan Markle’s Netflix show, With Love, Meghan, podcaster Amanda Hirsch expressed fear that detractors might rain on the duchess’s parade. “You guys I’m scared for Meghan,” the host of Dear Media’s Not Skinny But Not Fat podcast wrote in a comment on Instagram back in January. Now, ten weeks later, Meghan’s show is out, and she sent a letter to Hirsch to express some thanks for the concern.

“Dear Amanda, I heard you were feeling scared. Don’t be! This is the fun part—let’s enjoy it,” read a letter that Hirsch posted to her @notskinnybutnotfat account. The duchess signed off with, “As ever, Meghan.” The sign off echoes the name of Meghan’s new brand As Ever, which launched alongside the show earlier this month. On the company’s website, an initial slate of products includes the raspberry preserves and edible flower petal “sprinkles” she used during filming.
Hirsch, who started her weekly podcast covering pop culture in 2019, added a bit of context to her initial comment. In her Instagram stories she said she was scared for Meghan because of “the possible hate she would get” for the show because onlookers tend to “hate on her about everything.”
Hirsch also posted about her reaction to the letter. “Like, obviously framing this. Beyond shook. Beyond spiraling. Did I smell the paper? Yes! Do I want my own monogram? Yes. Am I absolutely flabbergasted and obsessed. FUCK. YES. @meghan, you have a fan for life,” she said. She also compared herself to Dave Portnoy after he received a thank-you note from Taylor Swift. “I have a box of letters but I felt like I can’t just put it in the box so I started a new box of extra special letters,” Hirsch added. “This is the first and only in it for now.”
Meghan has long had a reputation for sending handwritten notes to friends, employees, and strangers alike. As a podcaster, Hirsch might also be a helpful friend to have for the duchess’s next professional move. Nearly three years after releasing her 12-episode Spotify series Archetypes, Meghan is also returning to the world of podcasting with a show called Confessions of a Female Founder, which will premiere on April 8.
“I’m so proud of what we’re creating, and the candid conversations that I’m able to have with other female founders as we unpack the twists and turns of building a business,” Meghan said in a statement announcing the podcast. “Through my friendships and relationships, we’re able to dive into the type of insights that everyone wants to know as they’re building a business, and that I’m able to tap into as I’m building my own business with As ever.”
