Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked to bring together the company’s top toys for the first time ever

If you’re a millennial (like me) or even older, you probably fondly remember the name Mattel emblazoned across dozens of toys from tabletop to action figures. And while they haven’t slouched in the mobile department, Mattel’s latest foray may be their biggest yet as they bring Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked to mobile!

As you might expect from the name, Mattel Match sounds as if it’s going to be a match-three puzzler where you match up toys. But what we do know for sure is that it’ll feature a huge number of top brands from Mattel, including Barbie, Hot Wheels, Uno, Masters of the Universe and others.

While some may have hoped for a more action-adventure-type release, I think that Toybox Unlocked certainly sounds fun enough. It promises to take you on its own puzzle-themed adventure, slowly unlocking new items which are sure to provoke a wave of nostalgia amongst older players. And we all know how powerful nostalgia can be.

Put your toys away

Developed in collaboration with Uken, Mattel Match: Toybox Unlocked is set to arrive in soft launch for the Philippines and Canada, with a wider-scale release throughout 2025 and full release by the end of the year.

While many of Mattel’s brands are somewhat quaint by comparison to the heavyweights of today, there are still plenty of heavy-hitters such as the ever-popular Barbie. And while it may boast plenty of features, especially from a storied developer such as Uken, at the same time, trading on nostalgia may not bring in those who aren’t already familiar with Mattel.
